Collingswood Couple String Together Beautiful Melody

Musicians Joseph and Kathleen Mayes will perform at Rowan University on Wednesday, March 28.

The Mayes Guitar Duo, featuring the Collingswood husband-and-wife team of Joseph and Kathleen Mayes, shares music for two guitars and two lutes in a recital on Wednesday, March 28 at 8 p.m., part of the Faculty Spotlight Series presented by Rowan University’s College of Fine & Performing Arts in the university’s Boyd Recital Hall.

The Mayeses present two distinct sections in their program, one featuring the lute and one featuring the guitar. The recital includes works by J.S. Bach, John Dowland, John Johnson, Francis Kleynjans, Ernesto Lecuona, Pierre Passereau, Ida Presti, Thomas Robinson and Tomas Luis de Victoria.

The duo brings each musician’s experience as soloists and ensemble members together into a collaborative musical partnership. Their versatility is evident not only in the diverse styles of music they play, but also in the variety of instruments they bring to their programs.
