Man Stabbed Gas-Station Worker, Fled in Carjacked Vehicle: Police [VIDEO]

Collingswood Police are looking for a man they say robbed the Route 130 Gulf gas station at knifepoint Friday evening, stabbed an attendant, and then fled in a spray of glass, the rear window of his allegedly carjacked vehicle smashed out with a pipe.

About 5:50 p.m. on Feb. 15, police say a newer-model, light blue Honda Odyssey minivan pulled into the parking lot at the Gulf gas station on Route 130 South.

Surveillance footage from the scene show that the driver ordered gas, exited his vehicle and stalled for time, fidgeting with the lift gate of the vehicle while he waited for other customers to clear out.

The man then attacked the attendant with a knife, grabbing an unspecified amount of cash in the process. As he backed the van out of the lot at a high rate of speed, a second attendant obliterated its rear window with a pipe, police said.

That detail confirmed that they had recovered the right Honda Odyssey on Sunday morning in Camden City—a van Philadelphia police said was stolen in a carjacking the night prior to the robbery.

Both departments are coordinating their investigation, said Collingswood Det. Sgt. Guy DeRitis.

“We are working hand in hand with the Philadelphia police department, and the vehicle is being processed [for evidence],” DeRitis told Patch.

Police describe the suspect as a black male with a stocky build: about 5-feet-9-inches tall, weighing between 225 and 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved, gray sweatshirt, a wool hat, beige cargo pants and boots.

DeRitis asked that anyone with information regarding the identity of this suspect call him at 856-854-2401 x 102.

South Jersey has been hit with a rash of gas station robberies that, at least in Collingswood, date to the November 2012 shooting of an attendant at the Route 130 Sunoco station. That crime remains unsolved, and the same suspects involved may have struck again afterwards in Camden City.

Gas stations are “targets because of their location, the easy access to Route 130, in and out,” DeRitis said.

He said the wounded attendant was treated for lacerations to the hand, which required stitches to repair.
