Driver Charged In Hit-And-Run That Killed Camden Pedestrian: Police

Police charged a Willingboro man with leaving the scene after a fatal accident in Camden last week that killed a 64-year-old man.

CAMDEN, NJ — A Willingboro man has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident after a fatal hit-and-run crash in Camden that killed a pedestrian, police said.

The Camden County Police Department issued a summons to Samad Searles-Bevans, 47, on a second-degree charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in a death.

Searles-Bevans is accused of hitting a 64-year-old man on Atlantic Avenue near Broadway on Nov. 30 and then driving off, Camden County officials said.

Police arrived to the intersection shortly after 7:10 p.m. that evening and found the victim on Atlantic west of Broadway. First responders took him to Cooper Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead several hours later.

The victim has not been identified.

Police seized the vehicle involved, a 2022 Chevy U-Haul pickup truck, after the crash according to Camden County officials.
