Crews Fight Merrick Avenue Fire Sunday

The fire broke out before 5 p.m., but firefighters appeared to get it under control quickly.

Fire crews from several towns are assisting in knocking out the remnants of a house fire on Merrick Avenue at this hour.

The home in the 700 block of Merrick Avenue—its porch already swathed in patriotic banners and flags ahead of Independence Day—didn’t appear to suffer much external damage in the blaze.

Fire crews knocked out the windows of an upper-level room and were spraying inside.
