Five Things to Do in Collingswood This Week: 2/4/13 to 2/9/13
Lots to do this week, from the borough commissioners meeting to Second Saturday, and you'll still have time to squeeze in a fun run, jazz concert, and auditions for children's chorus.
1. Borough Commissioners Meeting
Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.—Collingswood Community Center
Bring your pressing business to the folks who can hear your voice. Popular points of discussion in recent months have been the downtown parking situation, the LumberYard, and of course, the National Food Market. For a recap of last month's business, click here.
2. Childrensong Vocal Auditions
Monday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m.—5 Lincoln Ave., Haddonfield (Haddonfield Middle School)

ChildrenSong of New Jersey will be holding auditions for young singers aged 8-16 to participate in their Winter-Spring vocal performance season. Singers need not have any formal vocal training, but must be able to match basic pitches at the youngest level and have a strong willingness to learn to sing and participate in an excellent vocal ensemble."
Email Patty Januszewski (pj@childrensong.org) to schedule an audition, or call 856-216-1140.

3. First Thursday Jazz
Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.—Collingswood Community Center
For ten bucks, you get to B.Y.O. your way into "the best of Philadelphia-area jazz and blues." February's artist is trumpeter Fred Adams and the Philadelphia Art Ensemble. (Here's a video of Fred playing with the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra.)
Want to read more about the jazz concerts? Collingswood resident Suzanne Cloud was recently honored for her work with the Jazz Bridge Foundation, which brings them to the borough.
4. Second Saturday: Stories of 'Fail,' Open House
Saturday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.
Local artists and musicians get together for a fun night of demos, wine and cheese, and gallery openings.
One of the unique events this week will be the liberti Church Story Slam, which invites storytellers to relate a 5-minute tale on the subject of "fail." E-mail grant.j.hollis@gmail.com to reserve a spot. And for those of you who want to check out Kenkojuku Karate, the studio is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a dojo open-house.
According to the 2nd Saturday page, "plan a night on the town and browse the many participating venues including studios, galleries, coffee houses, retail shops and many unexpected spaces. More than 30 retail shops are extending their evening hours."
Always fun, always free. E-mail 2ndsat@collingswood.com for Second Saturday updates and information.
5. Fun Run Running Club
Sunday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m.—Kenkojuku Karate
"We cater distance and pace to all who show up (to a point; if you run six-minute miles, you're on your own). Walk/runners, shorter distances—we'll fit you in. Come out and get some exercise and good company!"
