NJ Prosecutors Assn' Offering $3,500 Law and Justice Scholarships

Applications are due Sept. 15.

Students pursing aΒ career in law and justice, child advocacy, or continuing their law enforcement educationΒ can apply for one of four $3,500 scholarships from theΒ County Prosecutors Association of the State of New Jersey.

The scholarship program is open onlyΒ toΒ New Jersey residents of financial needΒ who have either been accepted toΒ law or graduate school or are sworn law enforcement officers pursuingΒ collegiate or graduate-level education.

Applications must be postmarked by Sept. 15.

Each ofΒ the four scholarships is named for a late county prosecutor:Β Harris Y. Cotton,Β Oscar W. Rittenhouse, Andrew K. Ruotolo, Jr. and John H. Stamler.

Cotton wasΒ a Gloucester County prosecutor who died in 1997; the scholarship that bears his name isΒ "intended for an applicant pursuing a career as a prosecutor specializing in domestic violence or hate crimes," according to a press release from the association.

Rittenhouse, aΒ Hunterdon County prosecutor who died in 1979, is the namesake of a scholarshipΒ intended for an applicant pursuing a career as a prosecutor.Β 

Ruotolo, Jr. was aΒ Union County prosecutor who died in 1995; the scholarship named for him isΒ intended for an applicant with an interest in β€œenhancing the rights and well-being of children through child advocacy programs.”

Stamler was also aΒ Union County prosecutor who died in 1990; the scholarship named for his memory isΒ intended for a sworn law enforcement officer seeking educational advancement.
