COLLINGSWOOD, NJ — A martial arts school in Collingswood was vandalized for the third time in recent months, getting its front windows smashed last weekend. Anti-LGBTQ bias could be at play, according to borough officials.

Kenkojuku Karate put up a Pride flag last June, which was stolen. A replacement flag was stolen last fall, owner Andrew Faupel told Fox 29.

The Haddon Avenue dojo was vandalized again early Sunday morning. Both of its front windows were damaged, with one shattering.

Collingswood police continue to investigate the incident, and the motive remains unknown. But borough officials pointed to the business's support of the LGBTQ community as a potential factor.

The borough shared the following statement Wednesday on its Facebook page:

"The Borough of Collingswood strongly condemns the recent acts of vandalism against Kenkojuku Karate, a valued member of our small business community. We express our deep concern and solidarity with them, especially in the face of potential bias, as these acts of vandalism are seemingly directed towards the LGBTQ+ community. Such behavior has no place in our community, and we are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all residents and businesses. To those responsible, know that such actions will not diminish our dedication to ensuring that all of our residents know they are valued members of our community."

Kenkojuku Karate, an award-winning martial arts studio, has been part of the Collingswood community since 2003. Andrew and Tara Faupel thanked the Collingswood community for their support amid the recent incident.

"We do not yet know the motivation for this targeted attack," they said on the business's Facebook page. "We are a very positive and inclusive community dojo that has been a part of the neighborhood for over 21 years. We promote an environment that builds self-confidence and leadership, we teach personal safety and self-protection, and we support all of our town events.. whether we have a float in the Holiday Parade or distribute 10,000 pieces of candy at Halloween."
