South Jersey Sports Star, 18, Killed In PA Crash

Ryan Rodgers was a 3-sport star in high school who recently moved to Pennsylvania.

FRANCONIA, PA — A teen from South Jersey, who was a standout athlete at Collingswood High School, died Monday in a car accident in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Ryan Rodgers was a three-sport star in high school who recently moved to Souderton, Pennsylvania, according to his obituary. He was 18.

His family is creating a Ryan Rodgers Scholarship Memorial Fund and launched a GoFundMe for the endeavor.

Franconia officers arrived at the scene of the crash at about 7:15 a.m., finding a Ford sedan left the roadway and struck a tree. Immediately following the impact, a passing driver and a Pennsylvania state trooper removed Rodgers from his vehicle before it caught fire.

An ambulance took Rodgers to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. The Franconia Township Police Department opened an investigation into the crash.

At Collingswood High School, Rodgers competed on the football, wrestling and baseball teams for all four years.

"The Collingswood community suffers the loss of a terrific young man today," said the Facebook page for the Collingswood High School and Middle School baseball teams. "Ryan, you will be missed and remembered by so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rodgers family, as we as a community process this tragedy."

Rodgers attended Williamson College of the Trades in Pennsylvania and was part of the football team, his obituary says. He worked at Lehigh Valley Lawn.
