Suspect in Jewelry Theft Confesses to Oaklyn P.D.

John S. Evans, 41, had been performing repairs to a home in the borough when he allegedly helped himself to $1,000 in jewelry.

An Oaklyn man suspected of pawning jewelry valued at $1,000 from a home in which he was working in the borough was arrested on Monday, according to Oaklyn police.

Detectives caught up with John S. Evans, 41, of Oaklyn, because pawn receipts bearing his name matched the descriptions of jewelry that had been reported missing from a home in the borough.

Evans had access to the property, police say, because he had been left alone within the home to make repairs. The investigation dates back to Dec. 8, 2012, and there was no sign of forced entry in the incident.

“As always, we ask that you are cautious as to who and how you allow people you’re your home,” read a statement from Oaklyn Police Chief Joseph T. Abbate accompanying the announcement.
