Cranford Community Center, Gov't Offices Shut Due To COVID-19
Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty said that the closure, starting Friday, is due to the high rate of coronavirus in town.
CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Municipal Building and Community Center are closed to the public effective Friday, Jan. 22 due to COVID-19, announced Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty on Thursday.
She wrote, "The Township Committee regularly monitors and evaluates data related to COVID-19. Due to the continued increase of confirmed cases in Cranford, we have decided to close the Municipal Building and Community Center to the public. This decision was made to protect the public and our employees, who will remain on site to provide services."
As reported on Wednesday, Cranford's confirmed case count rose by 44 since Monday, and there are 125 active cases in town. The total population is approximately 24,000.

The total cases in town since the start of the pandemic is 1,072, including residents in long-term care. The death toll remains at 103.
By Thursday, the U.S. death toll due to coronavirus had jumped to 409,000 lives.

Prunty said that there are numerous safe and convenient ways to reach employees to conduct business.
How to conduct business with the town:
- Call or email. The Township website has contact information for each department; individual department pages have additional information.
- Use safe and secure Drop Boxes outside the rear entrances to the building for tax payments, applications and paperwork for Finance, Building, Zoning, Engineering, and Zoning Departments. A secure box for payment of parking tickets will be installed shortly.
