Girls Soccer Defeats Rahway in County Quarterfinals

The girls improve their undefeated record to 11-0.

The Cranford girls soccer team, or CHSGVS as they’ve coined themselves, defeated Rahway on Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the Union County tournament, 4-1.

After a disheartening loss to Scotch Plains in double overtime during the semifinals of last year’s county tournament, the Cranford girls soccer team has let the determination to win counties steer them in a winning direction

Co-captain Ana DiGiovanni said with that loss hanging over the team’s head they came into this season determined to win counties.

“We have had a very motivated team from the beginning,” DiGiovanni said. “It’s an awesome group of girls who have been working together both on and off the field.”

This week, the Cougars will continue with regular season games and then enter the semi-final round of the county tournament next Saturday against rival Westfield.
