Cranford House Fire Victim Identified As Grace Sinnott, 83

Two other residents were rescued from the home by firefighters.

CRANFORD, NJ — A house fire in Cranford left one woman dead, Cranford fire officials said. The victim was identified as 83-year-old Grace Sinnott.

The three-alarm fire started around 7 a.m. in a two-and-a-half story home on Beech Street. Three people were trapped in the home while the fire raged. Two people were rescued by fire crews with the help of a neighbor and treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause is under investigation, the fire was brought under control around 8:10 a.m.

In a statement, the Cranford Fire Department said, "The Fire Department reminds all residents that the most effective way to protect you and your family from fire is to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms throughout your home, have an escape plan with two ways out, and regular fire drills with your family. Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly and check on family, friends, and neighbors who may not be able to test their alarms."
