Search For Attempted Car Burglary Suspect Leads to Drug Arrest Near Lincoln Park

The attempted car burglary suspect was never found.

A search around Lincoln Park for an attempted car burglary suspect in the later hours of May 20 led to the arrest of a man for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Cranford police received a call from a Hillcrest Avenue resident who believed she saw a male attempting to enter a parked car shortly after 11 p.m. The male fled before police arrived. The vehicle owner determined that nothing was missing. Police started searching the area for any suspicious activity.

Officer John Rattigan spotted a motor vehicle stopped at Lincoln Avenue West near Lincoln Park shortly after the attempted car burglary incident. Rattigan recovered marijuana and hollowed cigars from the vehicle during his investigation.

Though the 23-year-old man from Toms River was not positively linked to the attempted burglary, he was processed and released for allegedly possessing under 50 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia. He was to appear in court on May 24.
