Original post: An unsubstantiated threat earlier this morning forced Cranford High School and neighboring Brookside Place School into lockdown mode, school district officials announced.

At approximately 10 a.m., Cranford High School’s main office received an anonymous call lasting just over one minute making an unsubstantiated threat, causing the high school to go into lockdown mode, according to Dr. Gayle Carrick, Superintendent Cranford Public Schools.

Brookside Place School also went into lockdown mode due to its proximity to Cranford High School, Carrick said in a letter transmitted via the Cranford Public Schools Honeywell Alert System.

Police responded immediately and performed a visual sweep of the high school and of Brookside Place School. The Union County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the high school with dogs to further continue the internal security sweep, Carrick said. Both schools are now under a “Shelter in Place” mode, meaning classroom instruction continues keeping students inside of their classrooms with no hallway passing, the superintendent said.

Safety measures are being taken to ensure the safety of staff and students and a police presence remains on-site at Cranford High School and during AM kindergarten dismissal at Brookside Place School, Carrick said. Police will remain at the scene until the unsubstantiated threat has been resolved.
