1 Killed, 1 Injured In South River Home Explosion: Prosecutor

The explosion took place Thursday night at a home on Continental Court, authorities said.

SOUTH RIVER, NJ— One person was killed and another seriously injured in a home explosion in South River on Thursday night, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and South River Police Chief Mark Tinitigan said.

Around 7:03 p.m. on Thursday, authorities responded to a home on Continental Court following a report of an explosion.

On arrival, authorities found two men who had sustained serious injuries from the explosion, Ciccone said.

One of the men was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment. The other, Kevin Gilbert, 62, of South River, was discovered with fatal injuries. Gilbert succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Ciccone said.

According to reports, every home in the neighborhood was rocked by the explosion, some sustaining structural damage.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is active and continuing.
