Creek Overflow, Water Rescues Reported In Middlesex County After Heavy Rains Soak NJ

Edison

Grove Ave at Livingston Ave was shut down by authorities due to flooding.

Calvert Avenue, Edmond St., and Park Avenue (Plainfield Road area) also saw dangerous creek overflows, according to Joshi.

Emergency crews were actively working across town and the high-water rescue vehicle was deployed for rapid response.

Metuchen

Metuchen experienced significant flooding across parts of the Borough,” according to Mayor Jonathan M Busch.

Emergency teams remained on standby to assist even as water levels receded later at night. The police, Fire, and EMS teams managed road closures and assisted drivers whose vehicles became disabled, including one that caught fire, Busch said.

The Metuchen High School building was converted into a temporary emergency services hub. “I’m so grateful to everyone who helped make that happen so seamlessly,” Busch said. No injuries were reported.

South Plainfield

In South Plainfield, several streets were flooded. Borough Hall will have a two-hour delayed opening on Tuesday, according to officials. SP Library will also have a two-hour delayed opening.

South River

South River saw flooding conditions and dislodged manhole covers on Jackson Street and Whitehead Avenue, resulting in road closures. The township discouraged residents from driving and asked them to check NIXLE messages and social media pages for updates relevant to South River.

East Brunswick

In East Brunswick, Dutch Road near Putnam Road was closed in both directions due to a downed tree and wires. Police personnel were on the scene to control traffic and assist motorists. Motorists were advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays. At this time, it is unclear how long the road will be closed. PSEG also reported a power outage that impacted around 200 customers in the township.
