​Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car In East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian, struck and killed on Rues Lane Monday night.

The pedestrian, Heather Steinklein, 61, from East Brunswick, was critically injured and pronounced deceased, police said.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and remained at the scene of the crash, police said.

On Monday, Feb. 12, at approximately 5:54 p.m. police were called to the intersection of Rues Lane and West Waverly Drive for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle, according to police.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no further information is being released at this time, police said.

Meanwhile, some residents reacted on social media to the the report of the accident.

One commenter said he saw a dog with a leash in the Catholic Charities parking lot that appeared lost and wasn't sure if it was the victim's: "I saw a lost dog, medium size, short hair, black color with a leash. He ran away when he heard the sirens. Heartbreaking," the commenter said.

Others expressed shock and sadness about the accident.

Patrolman Christian Longhitano of the East Brunswick Police Department Special Operations Section is conducting the investigation.
