New York Giants Hall of Famer Harry Carson, known for his formidable presence on the football field, is now championing a new cause: his own health journey. For years, Carson has been a passionate advocate for men's health screenings in partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health. Little did he know, the very "game plan for better health" he promoted would end up saving his own life.
Following a routine screening, Carson was diagnosed with intermediate-risk prostate cancer. He turned to his trusted friend and internationally recognized urologist, Michael D. Stifelman, M.D., Chair of Urology atHackensack University Medical Center. Thanks to early detection, Dr. Stifelman and his team were able to perform a successful, innovative single-port robotic prostatectomy.
Today, Carson is cancer-free and using his personal story to inspire other men, particularly Black men who are at a higher risk, to prioritize their health and get screened. His powerful journey was a central focus at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Annual Men’s Health Event, where he continues his mission to prove that early detection is the key to victory.
