Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Essex Fells will conduct a Christmas Even Candlelight Service on December 24th at 6:00pm. The community is extended a warm welcome to attend this service. In addition to the singing of Christmas carols, the interim pastor, Dr. Wayne Dyer will be speaking from Luke 2 a message entitled "The Five Candles".

The service will conclude with the lighting of the fifth advent candle and the lighting of individual candles by the congregation. Rooted in the Jewish tradition of lighting lamps during religious rituals, early Christians embraced candles to signify Christ, the Light of the World.

In the candlelight services, the act of lighting candles represents the spreading of gospel light and the unity of the congregation.  Dr. Dyer explained, "each flame is a testimony to our faith, shared across generations, and a reminder that indeed in this dark world Christ is the Light."
