Huntco Polytech Graphic Design Students Show at Cabrini Gallery

Seven graphic design students from Hunterdon County Polytech among the 18 winners of Cabrini University's Art + Effect Poster Contest

Flemington, N.J. -About one-quarter of the winning posters in Cabrini University’s Art + Effect High School Poster Contest came from Hunterdon County Polytech Career and Technical School. Seven of the school’s graphic design students placed among the artists selected to display their powerful designs at a Nov. 18 exhibition in Cabrini’s Gorevin Gallery.

In its second year, Cabrini’s Art + Effect High School Poster Contest invited high school students to create a conceptual poster based upon an immigration theme. Students could explore a variety of media from traditional to computer-generated to create their posters. Then, a jury of professional graphic designers judged the submissions – 74 total – to narrow them down to 18 winners based on originality, craftsmanship and thematic message.

Polytech Graphic Design Instructor Cynthia Dailey took great pride in seeing her students’ work selected for exhibition. “As a designer, I know that my students have talent and passion, but it is very gratifying to have their work critiqued and judged by the talented folks at Cabrini,” she said.

Dailey presented this contest to her students to allow them to compete with peers from other high schools and also to share their voices on the heavily discussed and debated topic of immigration in America.

“As graphic designers, we are communicators, and our art gives us our voices,” Dailey said.

In last year’s inaugural contest, which focused on the theme of diversity, Polytech’s Ariel Vergara, now a freshman at Kutztown University, placed among the winning artists.
