Travis Manion Battalion Sea Cadets Instills Character And Integrity Through Different Activities Around Hunterdon County
The Sea Cadet Corps Of Hunterdon County voluntarily assist the Parks and Recreation Division in support of the over 300,000 visitors who annually enjoy the parks and participate in the many programs and events Hunterdon County has to offer.
Freeholder John W. King, the Board’s Liaison for Parks and Recreation, said, “The Sea Cadet Corps Of Hunterdon County are greatly appreciated and we applaud them for their willingness, at such a young age, to do so much. Offering assistance at large-crowd events or maintaining a nature trail are a small part of what they do, but everything they do goes a long way for Hunterdon County and the Parks Division.”
The United States Sea Cadet Corps was created to increase the potential for the young men and women, ages 10-17, to join the military in any of its branches. The program also encourages participants to develop a strong sense of moral character and citizenship through different Corps exercises and community events.

Dan Bush, Parks and Recreation Division Head said, “The Sea Cadet Corps members clean and maintain the grounds at Echo Hill Park, as well as the Lechner House, which allows us to continue to offer the many programs at Echo Hill throughout the year. The Sea Cadets also provide assistance at Summer Concerts, at the Employee Appreciation Committee’s Touch-A-Truck event and going forward, they will be present at the County Community Day. It is encouraging to see so many young people involved in a great program which adds value to the community as a whole.”
Freeholder King continued, “Most recently, The Sea Cadets graciously presented colors at our Veterans Recognition Award Ceremony during the Opening Ceremonies of the Hunterdon County 4H Fair. Their presentation was reverent and respectful, truly bringing home how important it is to have these organizations with strong leadership to train our youth and to help instill integrity and character.”
