Liberty Outlet Mall Developer Will Donate $2M To Flemington: Report

A $2 million donation from the company redeveloping Liberty Village Outlets into housing units will support Flemington, a report said.

FLEMINGTON, NJ — A $2 million donation from the company redeveloping Liberty Village Outlets into housing units will support Flemington borough infrastructure, a report said.

The Flemington Borough Council and HBC Liberty Village LLC have agreed that the developer will donate the money for improvements as part of a deal with the borough, according MyCentralJersey.com.

HBC Liberty Village is planning to develop townhomes and apartments. This would include a small percentage of residences for low-to-moderate income earners, and group homes adults with developmental disabilities, the report said.

Improvements include a new park on Brown Street, and the developer will donate space in the Liberty Outlet building to the borough, according to MyCentralJersey.com. Mayor Betsy Driver told the outlet this is "a good deal for the borough."

HBC Liberty Village agreed to donate the former Ralph Lauren store to the borough, the report said.

Liberty Village opened in 1981 as the U.S.'s first outlet shopping center, according to the borough. Flemington officials put forth a big redevelopment plan in December 2021, seeking to repurpose the space as sales declined.

The council unanimously chose HBC Liberty Village LLC, which is part of Hoboken Brownstone Company, as the developer in late January according to MyCentralJersey.com.

The 23-acre site sits near the intersection of State Route 12, Stangl Road, and Church Street. The Black River & Western Railroad runs through part of the redevelopment area.
