48 Indicted For Galloway Cockfighting Ring: Prosecutor
Dozens of roosters were seized from the property in varying states of injury along with four dogs, three kept in "deplorable" conditions.
GALLOWAY, NJ — An Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted 48 co-defendants for their involvement in an elaborate cockfighting ring held at a Galloway home.
Galloway police found online invitations to an illegally organized cockfight event scheduled in March of 2024, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said. Authorities were able to stop a cock fight taking place in an arena that was built specifically for the purpose of rooster fighting.
Police executed a search warrant on a home on the 300 block of S. Bremen Avenue on March 9 during an investigation into a large cockfighting ring, authorities previously said.

A large group of people tried to run away when officers arrived, police said. Numerous subjects were detained as police searched the property.
Officers uncovered an "elaborate cockfighting operation," police said, including a constructed cockfighting ring, spectator style seating and numerous cockfighting "kits." About 50 roosters in varying degrees of health were found in crates, storage boxes and bags in and around the arena, police said.

Four dogs were also seized from the home and a backyard shed; three of them were being kept in "deplorable conditions," authorities said. One dog needed immediate, life-saving surgery.
Organizer Jose Madera and one attendee, Roberto Soto, were not included in the indictment as they previously resolved the matter - Madera pleaded guilty last year.
