Atlantic City Cop Arrested, Then Sexually Assaulted Woman: Prosecutor

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — An Atlantic City police officer is accused of sexually assaulting a detained and handcuffed woman inside of his patrol vehicle, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Joshua Munyon, 24, of Egg Harbor Township, was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and second-degree official misconduct on April 3, authorities said.

An adult woman, only identified by the initials A.L., reported that Munyon sexually assaulted her on Sept. 13, 2024, according to a news release.

The woman had been served a summons for being intoxicated at Tropicana Casino earlier that morning by Munyon, officials said. After issuing the summons, he drove her to a parking lot in Atlantic City, where he sexually assaulted her inside the police car, authorities said.

She told authorities that her wrists were injured because she was handcuffed as he assaulted her, and her toenails were chipped due to her position inside the car during the assault.

Munyon took A.L. back to Tropicana where she told security staff what happened, prompting a response from police and the prosecutor's office.

Video showed her getting in and out of Munyon's patrol vehicle, and location data in the car detailed his route of travel, authorities said, along with A.L.'s corroborating statements.

Munyon denied to his supervisors that the woman was ever under arrest or inside of his car, authorities said.

He joined the police department in February of 2023.

Munyon sits in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
