Damon G. Tyner Resigns As Atlantic County Prosecutor
Damon G. Tyner has resigned from his position as Atlantic County Prosecutor, his office said Tuesday.

MAYS LANDING, NJ — Damon G. Tyner has resigned from his position as Atlantic County Prosecutor, his office said Tuesday.
Tyner's resignation was effective at 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to a statement from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Tyner, whose five-year term was to expire early next year, was first Black person to hold the position in Atlantic County, according to the Associated Press.

He was appointed as the Atlantic County Prosecutor on March 15, 2017 by former Gov. Chris Christie and consent of the State Senate.
The state Attorney General’s office investigated numerous allegations against Tyner, including that he lied to the public, failed to recuse himself in multiple cases when he should have and was involved in retaliation against a whistleblower, New Jersey Advance Media reports.

His resignation comes nearly one week after an investigation led to the arrest of two men in “one of the largest narcotics seizures in Atlantic County’s history.”
Tyner was named the 2021 Prosecutor Of The Year from the New Jersey Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association on July 14.
First Assistant Prosecutor Cary Shill was sworn in as acting prosecutor by Superior Court Judge Bernard Delury Jr. on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately respond to Patch’s request for comment.
