Driver Escapes Before Train Strikes Car In Galloway: Police

The driver accidentally turned right onto the train tracks instead of the cross street and his car got stuck, Galloway police said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — A driver was able to escape his car that got stuck on railroad tracks shortly before it was struck by a train, Galloway police said.

It was about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday when the Ventnor driver was heading north on Pomona Road, according to a news release. Instead of turning right onto the cross street, he accidentally turned right onto the train tracks, where the car got stuck, police said.

The driver was unable to move his car and got out safely. However, before he was able to call police, a New Jersey Transit train heading east hit the unoccupied car.

No one, including train passengers, were injured in the accident, according to police. The train, on the Atlantic City Line, experienced delays Tuesday night after the crash.

The strike is now being investigated by New Jersey Transit Police.
