EGG HARBOR TWP., NJ — An Egg Harbor Township teacher will resign from his job after a social media post he wrote allegedly threatening violence against President Donald Trump was shared by right-wing X account Libs of TikTok and reportedly caught the attention of the Secret Service.

Fred Wilson, a special education and social studies teacher at Egg Harbor Township High School, allegedly wrote "I think we are at the moment where assassination is at least a talking point" on a Facebook post, according to a screenshot shared by Libs of TikTok. He will resign effective June 30, NJ Advance Media reported.

When that screenshot surfaced, the post was reported to local police and then the Secret Service, which confirmed to NJ Advance Media that the post was under investigation.

The screenshot also features Wilson wearing a t-shirt, apparently at school, that reads "I support trans rights because I'm not an idiot," and another Facebook post apparently showing his dislike of Trump. The social media account, under a different name, has since been deleted.

It's not clear if Wilson is still teaching or if he is on leave. The vote to approve his resignation happened at a Board of Education meeting earlier this week.

"We take comments about and suggestions of violence seriously and took immediate action," Board President Lou Della Barca said at the meeting. "We are working with outside agencies and have internally investigated the matter."

Della Barca said that under New Jersey law, the board was unable to comment further.

Public records show that Wilson has been teaching in the district since 2003. His salary is $94,150, according to records.
