NJ Worker Killed When Concrete Slab Falls On Him: Police
A 23-year-old roofing worker died when a concrete slab collapsed on him at an Egg Harbor Township condo complex, police said.
EGG HARBOR TWP., NJ — A 23-year-old man was killed Tuesday when a concrete slab collapsed on him as he was working at an Egg Harbor Township condominium complex, police said.
The man was part of a roofing crew that was cleaning up at the end of the day after conducting demolition and construction on the exterior of the Clubs at Tilton, police said.
At the complex, two units have staircases on the second floor that meet halfway down and merge into one staircase that goes to the ground level. At the merge, there is a concrete slab.

The man, whose identity is withheld pending family notification, was cleaning up under the slab shortly after 3 p.m. when it collapsed on top of him, police said.
He suffered severe internal injuries and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery, police said, but he died from his injuries.

A mother and her two children were in one of the second floor units, and they had to be evacuated via ladder with the help of Egg Harbor Township volunteer firefighters. They were temporarily placed in a hotel by Clubs at Tilton management and will stay there until further notice, police said.
The township building inspector also responded to the scene. OSHA has been notified, police said.
