Officer Sustains 'Significant Injury' After Foot Chase In Atlantic Co.: Police
Police arrested an armed man, who had several outstanding warrants, after a foot chase Wednesday afternoon. One officer was hospitalized.
ABSECON, NJ — An Absecon police officer was hospitalized after sustaining a "significant injury" during a foot chase with an armed suspect on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Officers were working a traffic enforcement detail on U.S. Route 30, and stopped a 24-year-old man for improperly crossing the highway, according to Absecon Police.
"During the stop, the male provided false information to officers in an attempt to avoid receiving a summons," police said. Once officers realized the man had given false information, they tried to make an arrest, and he ran away on foot.

Police said that during the chase, the man also discarded a magazine from a firearm. Officers eventually arrested him, and found the handgun in his possession.
The man, identified as Gregory J. Ganski III of Williamstown, had multiple outstanding warrants, said police.

"During the pursuit, one Absecon officer sustained a significant injury that required hospitalization," authorities added. Officials did not say how exactly the officer was injured, or give an immediate update on his condition.
Ganski is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he faces weapons-related charges as well as those outstanding warrants.
