Wayne Woman Charged with Identity Theft

Latoyha Sapp, 38, is charged with Trafficking in Personal Identifying Information Pertaining to Another Person and Computer Related Theft.

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrest of Latoyha S. Sapp of Wayne, New Jersey, on charges of Trafficking in Personal Identifying Information Pertaining to Another Person and Computer Related Theft. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office White Collar Crimes Squad and the Computer Crimes Squad under the direction of Chief Carmen Martino.

On August 13, 2014, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office arrested Ms. Sapp after learning that she had engaged in the unauthorized acquisition and distribution of personal identifying information pertaining to multiple people who were patients of record at Cogent Healthcare Incorporated, a company under contract with Hackensack University Medical Center, where she worked as an Administrative Coordinator of Medical Records. The patients’ information was allegedly to be used to perpetrate credit card fraud in late 2012. The information leading to the arrest of Ms. Sapp was obtained from a larger identity theft investigation that was conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office White Collar Crimes Squad in early 2013. That investigation led to the arrests of nine subjects in May 2013 for various identity theft and credit card fraud related crimes. Representatives of Cogent Healthcare and Hackensack University Medical Center have cooperated with the investigation.

Bail for Ms. Sapp was set by the Honorable Louis J. Dinice, J.M.C., at $35,000 with 10% option. Ms. Sapp was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail with a first appearance scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2014.
