Boulevard Construction Moves Along

Work to tear up the old sidewalks on the west side of the Boulevard from Jefferson to Hamilton is slated to begin Thursday.

The streetscape construction to the Boulevard, which , is moving along as workers are now slated to begin tearing up the old sidewalk on the west side between Franklin and Hamilton on Thursday.

By Wednesday afternoon new curbs and sidewalks appeared to be partially complete on the west side of the Boulevard from Jefferson to Franklin.

Since the project began this week traffic has been open in both directions. Police officers have been divering the southbound traffic over to the east side. Cars are not allowed to park on these streets while the work is being done.

Work is being doing to replace the sidewalks on both sides of the road to a two block section of the Bouelvard from Jefferson to Franklin to Hamilton avenues.

It is expected work to tear up the sidewalks on the east side of those streets will begin next week.

Police Chief Michael Colaneri said earlier this week the project is expected to take about four weeks to complete.

This project represents phases three and four of an ongoing project to revitalize the Boulevard. The first two phases - Washington to Kipp to Jefferson - were completed about two years back. The streets will get new sidewalks, curbs, pavers and new lighting.

The old trees that lined the Boulevard last week to make way for the new construction. Officials say new trees will be planted when the project is done.
