Bergen County Woman Hit 2 Cars In Hoboken, Charged With DWI: Police

A woman hit two cars at a light in Hoboken and left, but was found nearby and arrested for DWI, police said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A Fort Lee woman was charged with DWI and other offenses after hitting two cars at a red light in Hoboken late last month, police said.

Patricia Fermin, 45, hit two cars that were stopped at the light around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, the Hoboken police said. The light was at the corner of Observer Highway and Monroe Street, near the Jersey City border.

Police said that Fermin left the scene, but they found her car around the corner on Monroe Street, still running with Fermin in the driver's seat.

Police conducted a field sobriety test, then placed her under arrest for driving while intoxicated.

She was taken to Hoboken Police Headquarters and issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident with injury, improper backing and turning, failing to display vehicle registration, refusal to provide breath samples, and reckless driving, police said.

As per John’s Law, she was released into the custody of a responsible party.

John's Law was instituted in New Jersey in 2001 after a man was charged with DWI and then released into the custody of a friend, who took him to his vehicle, according to the state. That man then collided with another car, killing the driver, John Elliott, who was an ensign in the Navy.
