Board of Education Implements Administrative Changes
The new system was approved at last week's meeting.

The Hoboken Board of Education approved a new way of evaluating its teachers on Tuesday night after a presentation by Personnel Director John Anzul.
Anzul presented the new evaluation tool, which will be implemented over the two years. The new levels are: unsatisfactory, basic, proficient or distinguished. Although the wording is different, Anzul explained, it corresponds with the way teachers are evaluated under the No Child Left Behind Act.
Gary Enrico, the president of the teachers union, said that he worked out some of the complications related to the new evaluation system and said he is OK with it.

Non-tenured teachers will be evaluated by the new tool first, tenured teachers the year after.
Anzul said that he will train the teachers on the new evaluation tool.

"What we're asking tonight," Superintendent Mark Toback said on Tuesday, "is the approval for the instrument." The board approved the new tool unanimously.
The board also approved a new Teaching Assistant Program. The program will be voluntary. The TAP program is a way for current employees to gain experience in administrational positions.
