City to Host Third Annual Thanksgiving Dinner in Hoboken Housing Authority

Donations and help are still needed.

A free Turkey dinner will be served on Tuesday at two locations in the Hoboken Housing Authority, for the third time, announced HHA Commissioner Jake Stuiver.

The city is also sponsoring the annual Hoboken Family & Friends Thanksgiving Dinner.

The meal, which will be catered by Hashway’s Deli of North Bergen, is paid for by donations.

"In 2009, a group of us sponsored and hosted a Thanksgiving dinner buffet provided free of charge to residents of Hoboken's senior citizen apartments as well as families living in Hoboken's public-housing facilities," Stuiver said in the event's announcement. "

If fundraising doesn't cover the whole dinner, the central organizers will chip in, according to Stuiver.

"Tough times like these are when it's most important for those of us who are able to chip in whatever we can to support community events and services to stand with those less-fortunate and remind ourselves that we are all part of one Hoboken community," Stuiver said.

On the menu: roasted turkey breast with gravy mashed, potato, stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce; and for dessert rice pudding.

Anything you can chip in to help make this year's Family & Friends Thanksgiving Dinner a success would be greatly appreciated, whether you can contribute $5 or $500. Please contact me at jstuiver@gmail.com or call me at 201-978-8977 to ask how you can make your donation, or volunteer serving food at the event on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

The senior dinner will be from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Multi-Service Center at 124 Grand St. The rest of the public-housing community will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the community room at 221 Jackson St. Transportation will be arranged for residents from Fox Hill Gardens and Christopher Columbus Gardens, and other uptown senior buildings, with details to follow.
