Council Members Take Oath of Office

In a ceremony in front of City Hall on Friday morning.

Smiling with excitement, dressed in a black-and-white summer dress, newly elected Sixth Ward Councilwoman Jennifer Giattino took the oath of office—together with the five other ward representatives on the Hoboken City Council—on the steps of City Hall on Friday morning.

Administered by Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, Giattino promised to uphold the oath of office and all the duties that come with it, "so help me God."

The councilmembers, who won during the , took the oath of office on Friday morning, before heading into the reorganization meeting that followed at noon.

Council members Theresa Castellano—choking up while taking the oath—Beth Mason, Michael Russo, Tim Occhipinti and Peter Cunningham all took the oath of office, joined by their families. The Lt. Governor administered the oath for Cunningham and Giattino.

"Times are tough in New Jersey," the Lieutenant Governor said, "it takes a lot of courage to run for office." The lieutenant governor praised Mayor Dawn Zimmer for .

Guadagno, , also mentioned the "tough elections" and joked that the reorganization meeting would last until 8 p.m.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer said she hopes to work together with the council, which she now controls with the election of Giattino. "While I know there will always be disagreements," Zimmer said, she added that she hopes to work toward economic prosperity and improve every day quality of life in Hoboken.
