Councilman Giacchi Says Goodbye

The Sixth Ward councilman attended his last official meeting on Wednesday night.

After 10 years as Sixth Ward Councilman, Nino Giacchi attended his last official meeting on Wednesday night.

First Ward Councilwoman Theresa Castellano, the longest consecutive serving councilwoman in Hoboken to date, honored Giacchi with a plaque on Wednesday night. "I'm really going to miss you," she told Giacchi.

"I've had a wonderful 10 years," Giacchi said. "I have no regrets."

Giacchi, whom Castellano called "the voice of reason," lost to Jennifer Giattino during the .

"It was worth every moment coming to these meetings and you know how long they are," Giacchi said.

Giacchi continued that he will still be around for the people of Hoboken.

"I’ll do anything for this city," Giacchi said, "because I love it and I’ll be here for the rest of my life."

Even though this was the last official meeting, a budget hearing will take place on June 29, which Giacchi will have to attend, too. On July 1, the Hoboken City Council will reorganize and Giattino will take place on the dais.
