County Allows Relocation of $3M to Southwest Park

The Board of Chosen Freeholders voted unanimously on Thursday afternoon.

The Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders voted unanimously to re-allocate $3 million in grant money to go toward purchasing park land in the Southwest part of town.

The money—which was originally meant to go toward a park on the uptown "Henkel site"—will have to be spent within the year, or the grant expires.

, because there were no interested sellers in that area. The council passed that resolution in a 5-4 vote, with Fourth Ward

Councilman-at-Large David Mello attended the Freeholder meeting on Thursday and presented pictures to the board of the area where the city is looking to build the park.

Mello called the vote "good news."

Mello said that the new park should also include some flood remediation and showed the county board pictures of the block the city is targeting.

On Wednesday, Zimmer said the city is currently negotiating in the Southwest to try and buy the property within the year. Completing that park, she said, is one of the city's "longer term projects."
