Cowork Space In Jersey City Attracts Creatives To Growing Neighborhood

JERSEY CITY, NJ — As Jersey City's various neighborhoods burgeon with new business and housing, creators and entrepreneurs need an inspiring place to work.

A cowork space headquartered in downtown Jersey City recently gave birth to its second location, in a growing community near historic Hamilton Park and the Jersey City/Hoboken border.

The new &Co North opened its doors on Ninth Street on Oct. 1 — almost exactly eight years after the original location. The original &Co Grove Street opened at 201 Montgomery St. in October 2016.

The newest &Co has a few perks: Proximity to quirky surrounding shops and restaurants (including a new ceramics studio and pho joint), free coffee from a growing local chain called Mod Cup, beer on tap, wifi, and convenience — it's in a residential building (Swift & Co) full of potential clients.

The building was developed by Silverman, the firm behind a number of residential complexes and arts spaces in town.

Paul and Eric Silverman were on hand for a celebration on opening day that drew neighbors, entrepreneurs, and creatives from around the area.

"Our opening night was a great opportunity to celebrate the colorful network of small businesses that make up our neighborhood," said director John Tokar. "To see the heart of Jersey City, such a beautiful mix of entrepreneurs, creatives and artists from all over our city gathered in one space to welcome us to Hamilton Park. What’s cooler than that? We couldn’t be more proud to be part of this community."

The original &Co Grove currently has about 300 members, he said, and the new version has approximately 75 members, with memberships, offices, and day passes available.

What's Offered

"Spanning two floors including a sprawling rooftop, the coworking space provides a variety of workspaces, including private offices, both dedicated and hot desks, in addition to collaborative communal areas," noted a spokesperson. "&Co is designed to foster collaboration and creativity, with amenities such as high-speed internet, meeting rooms, event spaces, a community kitchen and flex space perfect for fireside chats or wellness events."

The space is "community and design driven," with aesthetic created by Rebecca Johnson.

&Co North is located at 220 9th St., open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The membership is tiered, starting at $350 per month per person. There are options for reserved desks and businesses with multiple employees.
