Five-Alarm Fire Displaces Babies From Day Care In Hudson County
A five-alarm fire in Bayonne on Monday closed a day care and displaced families. The Hudson County Arson Squad is investigating.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A dozen babies were rescued from a fire near a daycare that displaced 17 people Friday.
The facility remained closed after the five-alarm fire spread through several buildings in Bayonne.
Firefighters were called to the blaze around 11:45 a.m. on Friday, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

The fire had started in an apartment bedroom at 458 Avenue C and spread to several adjoining buildings, they said.
Six apartments were damaged and 17 people were displaced, proseutors said.

A report on News 12 said that "hero" workers at a nearby day care evacuated 12 babies under 6 months old by placing them in rolling cribs and pushing them outside.

The Hudson County Arson Task Force is investigating the fire, prosecutors said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Bayonne Fire Department.
