Hoboken Streets Flood After Heavy Rainfall

A hazardous weather forecast issued for the region on Tuesday afternoon.

Some streets in Hoboken flooded in Hoboken on Tuesday, as heavy rain kept falling throughout the afternoon.

One such corner, on Seventh Street and Willow Avenue, resembled a river more than a street, as cars splashed through and the sidewalk flooded until it was impossible for a pedestrian to cross the street. An odor of rainwater hung in the air, even when heavy rainfall tapered off around 5 p.m.

Those residents who did have to brave the rain, walked through the ankle-deep waters, often while fighting with their umbrellas.

The city has since also installed and predict how the pump will work.

Eye Witness News came to Hoboken to cover the flooding as well, also reporting on the "smelly mixture of rainwater and sewage in the street and on the sidewalk on the west end of Hoboken."

The National Weather Service predicted that heavy rain, in combination with gusty winds, would continue to fall until about midnight.

Free parking in the city's garages was offered to residents with a valid permit who live in flood prone areas.

Wednesday is supposed to be a sunny day.
