Original Story, Posted Nov. 3

Although there are no municipal races at tomorrow’s election, tempers are high as eight local residents vie for just three, three-year seats on the Hoboken Board of Education.

The eight candidates are grouped in three political groups known as slates: Parents for Progress, Parents for Change, and The Education for All Children.

On the campaign trail, Board of Education candidates Sharyn Angley, Peter Biancamano, Lynn Danker, Antonio Gray, Brian Murray, Frances Kearns, Monica Stromwall, Patricia Waiters have debated politically charged issues, most notably the possible expansion of the Hoboken Dual Language Charter School (HoLa) to include seventh and eighth grade. Earlier this year, the school board hedged a lawsuit to block the expansion.

Mayor Zimmer has expressed to the Hudson Reporter that she will be supporting the Parents for Progress slate. At least one candidate from each of the three election states has spoken in favor of revising the current charter funding system.
