Hoboken also has a special meaning for those who served in the war, said Detrizio. "Hoboken was the point of demarcation for World War I, that makes it special for veterans," he said.
The veterans also honored one of their fellow veterans who passed away in August, Sam Scardino.
The short ceremony—which was attended by Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Freeholder Anthony Romano, Council members Theresa Castellano, Beth Mason and David Mello as well as Police Chief Anthony Falco—ended after the group sang the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America.
"When you see a vet today," Kennedy said, "say 'thank you.'"
