Hoboken's Memorial Day Parade Kicks Off This Week: See Details, Detours

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken is planning its Memorial Day Parade for this Wednesday evening.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says: "Memorial Day, a federal holiday held the last Monday in May, is the nation's foremost annual day to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women.Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a 'Memorial Day Order' issued by Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868."

Hoboken's parade, hosted by American Legion Post 107 and the city, will step off at 6:30 p.m. from City Hall, 94 Washington St.

(If the parade is postponed due to weather, Patch will update this story. As of now, up to a half inch of rain is predicted after 8 a.m.)

Marchers will head north on Washington to the viewing stand at the Elks' Club, 1005 Washington St.

Washington Street will be closed between Observer Highway and 11th Street from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the city said.

NJ Transit buses will be diverted to Hudson Street and Bloomfield Street during that time.

Drivers and Hop van riders can expect delays and traffic to be re-routed during that time.
