Manchester United Fans Wait for Players

Soccer fans braved the heat and waited for hours in front of the W Hotel in Hoboken.

Most of Hoboken may not know it, but there are legends in our midst.

Manchester United is in town for Wednesday night's Major League Soccer game at Red Bull Stadium in Harrison and the players are staying at the on River Street.

Chris Blazeski, 21, had been standing outside of the hotel since 10 a.m. on Tuesday. It was worth it, he said, if only he had gotten a free pass to watch Manchester United practice out of it. "Maybe I'll just get a ticket for tomorrow," he said. Prices for tickets to Wednesday night's game are more than $100.

Even though Wayne Rooney slipped into a dark van around 4 p.m.—not walking by the waiting fans—Blazeski said he had seen the entire team come off the bus earlier that day.

Christopher Meatto, from Hoboken, came by the W on Tuesday afternoon with an empty note pad, in the hopes of maybe getting an autograph or two. Meatto, 61, said he has been a Manchester United fan for at least 20 years.

At noon Meatto had stopped by where former players answered questions from fans. Meatto also snapped a picture of Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary ManU coach.

"This is very cool for Hoboken," Meatto said. "Hoboken doesn't realize who's here today."
