Mason Wants Mayor's Staffers E-Mails to Press

For the second time, there's a resolution on the agenda, asking for emails between the mayor's aides and local media.

Council President Beth Mason is still looking to investigate the mayor's two aides, by requesting all the email between them and local media from Jan. 1, 2010 to the present.

Last month, Mason and Vice President Michael Russo by Mayor Dawn Zimmer's chief of staff Daniel Bryan and communications director Juan Melli, accusing them of politicizing public communications on behalf of the city.

After it became clear that looking through roughly 35,000 e-mails from city-owned addresses would take too much time, and cost roughly $200,000 in lawyer fees, Council President Beth Mason had to re-word a resolution calling for an investigation into the mayor's two staffers.

Now, the resolution asks for specific emails to and from local bloggers, reporters, as well as former Michael Lenz campaign worker Sam Briggs and Blueline Campaigns.

According to the new resolution, which will be voted on Wednesday night during the council meeting, the council finds that communication from the city—as well as the city web site—has become "highly politicized."

One example Mason has mentioned is the transcript of a taped meeting between Russo and FBI Informant Solomon Dwek. The transcripts were posted on the city web site, after being transcribed by a private firm.

"The mayor shouldn't be the only one speaking for the city," Mason has said in a recent previous interview.

Mason is asking for the emails before June 1.
