Mayor Responds to Arrest of Former IT Director

Former IT director was arrested on Wednesday morning.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer called the events of former IT Director Patrick Ricciardi's arrest "upsetting," in an interview on Thursday afternoon.

The investigation into leaking confidential information and intercepting communication addressed to the mayor is in the hands of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and no longer in City Hall.

The complaint against Ricciardi—who is currently suspended without pay—also mentioned at least two other individuals who allegedly have been engaged in illegal activity related to this case, one of whom is still a city employee.

"I don't know who it may or may not be," Zimmer said. But, she said, if indeed guilty, "they should resign."

In a statement on Wednesday, following Ricciardi's arrest and , the mayor laid out part of her reasoning to bring in an outside expert and ultimately call the FBI.

"In May, my Administration suspected wrongdoing regarding electronic communications in City Hall. We hired a private security firm to evaluate the situation," Zimmer wrote in her statement. "My Administration immediately contacted the appropriate authorities, in this case the Federal Bureau of Investigation. We provided them with all evidence and have been working with the FBI since."
