HOBOKEN, NJ — Prosecutors gave their first public update on Wednesday regarding their investigation into a man who was found dead in a park last Thursday.

"The Cause and Manner of Death are still pending with the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office," said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in a short message Wednesday afternoon, "however, at this point in the investigation, it does not appear that the male died as a result of foul play."

The public had been asking for more information after a man was found by a jogger early Thursday morning at Maxwell Park, a public park on Hoboken's northern waterfront.

On Wednesday, Mayor Ravi Bhalla followed up, saying, "I greatly appreciate the diligent work of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, which has confirmed that there was no foul play from last week’s event at Maxwell Park. My thoughts and prayers remain with the family of the deceased individual, and it is my hope they receive the closure and support they need."

On Tuesday, Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher had written, "The prevailing view is that this was not a homicide, the victim was not a Hoboken resident, and it specifically was not one of the homeless residents we often see in this area. However, out of an abundance of caution, the HCPO is waiting for the autopsy results before confirming."
