NYC Man Beat Up in Hoboken After Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Two Women

A fight broke out on Thanksgiving eve. Information from police reports.

Hoboken police arrested two men on Thanksgiving eve after they got involved in a physical fight following an alleged sexual assault, according to police reports. 

Joel Maria, 28, from New York City and Jorge Silva, 25, from Ridgewood were both arrested on Nov. 23, police said.

A little after midnight police arrived in front of Teak, right by the taxi stand, on reports of a large fight, according to the report. Police said they found a crowd of roughly 100 people when they arrived.

They also found Maria lying on the floor with a 1.5 inch cut above his right eye, police said.

After talking to witnesses, police found out that Maria had allegedly been beaten by Silva. All of the people involved in the fight had been at Teak. Inside the bar, Maria allegedly sexually assaulted Silva's wife, according to the report.

According to the police report, Maria was "highly intoxicated and belligerent."

Silva's wife told police that Maria tried to dance with her multiple times and had touched her inappropriately while doing so, according to reports. Another woman later also came forward telling the police that Silva had assaulted her too, according to the report.

The people involved in the altercation were asked to leave the club immediately, police said. Outside, police said, Silva wanted to leave the area but was called over by Maria's friends. When Silva saw him walk up to his wife again, police said, he began punching Maria until he fell on the ground hitting the cobblestones on Hudson Place. Maria was sent to the intensive care at Jersey City Medical Center, according to the report.

Silva was charged with aggravated assualt and is scheduled to appear in municipal court, police said. Maria was arrested for sexual assault, police said.
