Police Arrest Hoboken Man for Alleged Assault on River Street

Eyewitness says attack came after fight near W Hotel.

A 25-year-old Hoboken man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly assaulting a 25-year-old Elmwood resident on downtown River Street, according to police reports.

arrested Joel Rivera, after he allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing the victim to fall to the ground and lose consciousness on Third and River Streets, according to police reports. 

A 42-year-old eyewitness told police that a fight had taken place in front of the W Hotel early Sunday morning, according to reports. The eyewitness told the police that the fight was broken up, and that Rivera walked west on Third Street, police said.

The victim followed Rivera, according to the report, and an altercation ensued.

Rivera told police that he was leaving the waterfront after a night out, walking east on Third Street and witnessed the altercation, according to the report on the matter.

Rivera was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, police said.
