Police Training At Hudson-Bergen Rail Facility Saturday

If you see police swarming a local Hudson-Bergen Light Rail facility on Saturday, here's why.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Police and other first responders will be involved in an emergency simulation at a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail facility on Saturday, according to NJ Transit.

New Jersey Transit Police Department’s Office of Emergency Management said numerous agencies will be involved in the simulation, including county and state law enforcement.

The training exercise will be conducted at the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) Caven Point Facility in Jersey City beginning at 9 a.m.

Caven Point is located in the area of Liberty State Park.

The transit agency said, "The drill, which will gauge responses to a simulated transportation incident, will take approximately three hours to complete. Residents and customers are advised that they will see an increased presence of police and emergency personnel in the area of Caven Point Facility in Jersey City but service along the HBLR will not be impacted."

This exercise is not open to the general public. It will take place entirely in the secured yard at the facility.

They said these agencies will participate:

  • New Jersey Transit Office of Emergency Management
  • Bayonne Police Department
  • Bayonne Fire Department
  • Bayonne OEM
  • McCabe EMS
  • New Jersey Department of Transportation
  • HBLR

NJ Transit routinely conducts training sessions, they noted.

They have 166 rail stations, 62 light rail stations, and more than 19,000 bus stops linking points in New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia.
